I figured rather than resurrect an old thread i'd start a new one. I'm wondering a couple of things about the PCV job. 1) I'm not really in a position where I can do it for a couple of weeks, though I know it needs one. Oil is coming out the filler cap (i hope thats the only place!) and got the plug in the 3rd cylinder oily. I'm hoping I haven't waited too long and will have to replace seals and such. Anyway, Klaus mentioned in another thread that, while bad for the environment, it would be ok to disconnect the hose from the throttle body and let it vent. I've taken off the throttle body, cleaned the inlet where it should go and its hooked up there, nice and clean, so I don't think its clogged there. Therefore I have to wonder if i unplug it (and seal off the inlet to the throttle body) if that would do any good?
I don't really think it would so I'm wondering if there is a way I can find a work around for a week or two (as I have an 800 mile drive I need to go on, so babying doesn't work (cruise's at 3k)) without further damaging anything. I've thought about disconnecting from the oil separator (but I'm not really sure how much oil vapor gets sucked through this system) putting some sort of 1-way valve where the hose connects to the top of the engine, putting another hose that runs down through the engine bay and empties into a catch (again, not sure how fast it would fill up), and finally just leaving the dipstick out a little while the engine is running.
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. I'm not really in a position where I can take off the manifold and just do it till i get back home. I have some tools (and actually i could probably do it if it was the only way..) but not really a location or time if (and lets be honest, when) I break something else on the system... Also, because ran the car as such, when I do the fix what else should I replace, obviously filler cap, but seals/valves?
