Climate control failure V70-XC70 2001

While I had my '01 V70 T5 in the repair shop for replacement of both O2 sensors, the mechanic contacted me to inquire if I had been having problems with the A/C climate control.

I indicted that we had no problem and I was told that it had failed and that they had noticed that it did not work while they were test driving the car.

The went on to say that they spent time trying to get it to work and took another unit out of a shop vehicle and it did work, although I am told that each unit is specifically programed with soft ware to that specific vehicle.

I picked up the car last week and have 2 new O2 sensors and a dead climate control, no fan, no A/C, no heat. In addition, the indicator light for the gear shift does not work and I was told that it is related to the climate control failure.

I understand that a new unit is around $800. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking about locating a used unit as I will probably be selling the car as I am looking for a '98 S70 GLT for my daughter.

Thanks for any and all suggestions and comments. Fred.
