Based on encouraging reports I've read here I purchased the glovebox mounted CD changer (P/N 9204762 with mounting kit (P/N 9204860).
The installation was going well and I was beginning to be mighty impressed with the design when I became stymied by what the instructions call the "reinforcement bracket." It's supposed to mount to the A pillar using the same bolting as the knee bolster bracket and support the back of the glovebox. No way! The flange on the bracket prevents it from mounting flush to the pillar. The bolster bracket can't fit over it, either. I considered cutting off the flange but was not convinced that it would make contact with the glovebox even with that modification. So I did everything else and ended up with a functional and reasonably sturdy installation. But it is not finished. I want that bracket in there!
So who else has had this experience? What did you do? I don't much relish taking things apart again, especially the knee bolster, but I am resigned to doing so to finish the job. Everything else went together well so I am dumbfounded by what happened with this one piece. Close, Volvo, but what happened?
BTW, I recall Robert Firestone writing that he had left out a piece. I suspect that this is the one. I did not have the problem with the glovebox door not closing after the job was done and I see no reason why this piece would change that. Installing it adds a lot of effort to the installation. All the same, it is clear to me that it is important for supporting the weight of the changer over many years.
