Problem with the Jacket on the Engine Wire Harness V70-XC70 1999

Hello All,

This past weekend I did a tune-up on my 1999 V70 XC (just replaced spark plugs). When I removed the top engine cover I discovered the black ribbed jacket covering the wire harness to the 5 ignition coils had disintegrate into a thousand tiny pieces of black flakes! Note: My engine has the distributor less ignition system (i.e. no distributor cap and no spark plug wires).

Apparently when the black ribbed jacket comes into contact with the HOT engine block the black jacket can not handle the heat. Thus over time the black jacket will disintegrate.

I am recommending that an inspection be done to make sure your black wire harness jacket is in good shape. An exposed bare wire jacket touching the HOT engine can easily eat through the wire jacket and cause the copper wire to short to the engine. This is not a good thing.

Good Luck,

Steven---
