Volvo Snow "spikes" on 205/55R16's V70-XC70 98

Greetings group,

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death at some point, but I assure you I looked in the archives before using up this bandwidth. The parts guy at my local volvo dealer told me that the star shaped "Snow Spikes" (sold by volvo as a substitute for snow chains) are a very tight fit on the 1998 V70 model with 205/55R16's. Tight fit relative to the clearance from the inner walls of the wheel well. He recommended switching to the 50 series tires if I intended to use the spikes.

Has anyone out there used the volvo spikes on a 98-99 V70 with 205/55R16's? Any input from those who have purchased or investigated the products is appreciated.
