Possibly my Son's First Car S70 1999

I will be looking at privately owned S70 turbo with 102K miles on it tomorrow. The car will be my son's first vehicle. The car never had the throttle body replaced or the MAF sensor replaced. The owner stated the check engine light comes on periodically, which indicates to me most likely the MAF sensor. The car otherwise is in good shape. She is asking $3400.00. So, should we stay away from the car and if so, what model should I be looking at. I cannot spend more then $3500.00(son is contributing 2K). I really need something SAFE! Thanks for any help in this really important matter..
