Good morning folks. I've been browsing the various posts on the "slow" keyless entry system and broken key fobs for two years looking for a solution other than via a Volvo dealer. While there are lots of sources for aftermarket remotes at good prices, every dealer in the L.A. area I've contacted either refuses to program the car for remotes other than Volvo units, or wants a minimum two hours to do the work. The alternative on the fobs was to buy new remotes from the dealer at an outrageous price--but then thy only want one hour to program them (insert appropriate emoticon here). Since the receiver is the issue for poor response to the fobs, and that's even more money.... Thus we've suffered with remotes that are annoyingly slow. About a week ago our S70's remote system gave up completely. I've checked around on the web before looking for aftermarket systems, but never found anything worthwhile. Technology marches on though. Last week I purchased a Bulldog Security KE1702R at PepBoys for a whopping $39. It includes an ECU, harness, two remotes, batteries, instructions and a website with comprehensive diagrams and tips. Including pulling the knee bolster it took me two hours to install the unit and wire it to the leads on the existing ECU to control door locks and dome light. Another half an hour to put in a relay to flash the lights when the system is activated. I did it all with alligator clip leads before soldering everything up. Works perfectly and the price was sure right. The remotes are nice, not chintzy. Our V70's single remote is on it's last legs. Next project!!!
