Bang in rear when starting '90 240 DL 1990

Recently when I start up my 240, it will take a few extra seconds to start, then make a bang or knock from the back. Sometimes it will start with no problems, but most of the time I hear the knock.

Also, when I make a quick start from a full stop, it will knock a few times then be fine. But if I make a slow start from a full stop, no noise. I have not noticed any loss of power or traction, and apart from that the car seems to be OK. Any ideas?
