Any electronics inside key? 850 1997

Hi All,

I'm the proud new owner of a 1997 850. I have lots of things to deal with, but the first question I have (and I am 99% sure I know the answer) is: Is there any kind of "immobilizing" chip inside the key? I find the head of the key to be annoyingly big and I want to cut off the plastic part, but only if it is plain metal inside.
