Gasoline leakage 850 1994

On my recent trip to Colorado (from FL) I went up Pikes Peak (14,100 ft).

On my way up the mountain, at about 10k feet, I get out at one of the turn-offs and begin taking pictures. I make my way to the passenger side of the vehicle and hear what sounds like air leaking from my tire. It really sounds like my fuel pump it's working it's butt off.

I get up to the top of the mountain and once I park the car (and turn it off) and make my way around it I hear the same hissing. I bend down near the passenger rear tire and see if I'm leaking air but it's not air. As I get closer to the ground I smell gasoline. As I look at the crushed rocks under the car I see little drips coming out of my car and onto the ground.

Needless to say, I freaked out and didn't think about what was going on or what it was that could be causing my car to leak gasoline. I took as many pictures as I could in 15 minutes and quickly (slowly) drove back down the mountain.
When I got to the ground floor (7k ft) the hissing was gone and there was no more leakage throughout the trip.

Now here in FL, I remember that during the summer my car likes to smell like gasoline sometimes (only outside the vehicle). I never did try to figure out why. It's done this since I bought it about three years ago. This afternoon while leaving school it smelled like gas and I remembered the Colorado thing so here I am, posting away.

Anyone have any experience with any of this? What's going on? Could I just have opened the gas cap on the top of that mountain to relieve the pressure? Was pressure the issue? Why the hell does my car have a hint of gasoline only during the summer? Is this just it's scent? (just kidding)

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks you all!
