Should I buy a XC70 or repair my '99 V70? V70-XC70 1999

My NA '99 V70 has 152,000 miles. The A/C is gone (evaporator). It needs: a new catalytic converter; new tires; brakes; probably struts; various and sundry belts and hoses (timing belt replaced at 100k); and this is just the stuff I know about.

Would I be throwing good money after bad? I really don't want to invest a couple grand in it if I will just have to spend another thousand or so six months from now. However, if I know I can get a fairly inexpensive year or two more out of her, I would like to. The interior is in good shape and most everything else seems to be working okay (although I won't risk opening my sunroof again!).

By the way, we had an oppressive heat wave last month. I really need air conditioning. Putting down the windows to let in the blast-furnace air just wasn't cutting it.

I have been looking at used XC70s. Should I bite the bullet and consider a 2004-2006 model?

Any thoughts?
