ROOF TRIM 96 WAGON 850 1996

I read a post or two on the internet about the weather stripping on the roof of 850 wagons. Recommendation was to razor everything off (the black carcked rubber), lightly sand and paint with rubberized bumper paint. Sounds like a not-too-bad idea, but the recommendation was to do this while stripping was on the car.

Can anyone tell me how to get the weather stripping off so that I can do a quick buzz with a sander and hopefully avoid damaging the car? For clarification, i am talking about the rubbercovered chrome weather stripping that runs fore and aft on the roof.

Alternative suggestions appreciated.
