850 electrical short in the interior light circuit 850

I have a 1996 850 which has developed a short in the interior light circuit. The lights work fine and turn on and off properly, but there is a short in the circuit that drains the battery after a day or two. Removing the fuse for that circuit eliminates the short, but the dinging sound (as if the door is open) is annoying. Removing all the interior light bulbs on the circuit doesn't cure the problem (short still drains the battery). I've had two reputable Indy's work on this problem for a number of hours to no avail. Anyone experienced something similar or have another suggestion to find and fix this problem? Is there a way to turn off the dinging sound if I can't find the source of the short? Thanks in advance.
