Any Saab owners open to a question?

Posted this in RWD - thought I might try here too.

My step son has been driving a 91 940 for years now - got it from me.
He is looking to replace it and is looking at a 2003 Saab 4 cyl. turbo w/175 hp ..gets 30 mph. He is looking at it as being a sportier car, plus better mileage.

He still loves the bricks and knows them pretty good now, having done a lot of repairs and maintenance on his own.

Is he making a mistake considering the Saab? There had to be some years that were better than others, and the way he describes this one is a transition year from old to new for Saab.
