heater core/intermittent idle drop S70 1998

getting that tell-tale coolant smell in cabin when using heater, poked around under hood, no visible leaks, guessing it's time to r'n'r the heater core. Book way seems to entail removing half of the car interior for access, I think I read a post a while back that featured a much easier way that was way less involved...anyone remember that one?..also, still getting intermittent idle drop in car, sometimes @stoplight, othertimes when driving, it was suggested it was a clogged fuel filter, changed that, problem still exists, cap, rotor plugs, and wires are fresh, fuel pump?..idle stumble getting a little longer in duration, would like to address pro-actively, b4 it leaves me stuck someplace
