'98 V70R: I've got a bad oil leak that I'm trying to figure out and hope that you guys can help. Here's the background, it's near the turbo, so after searching the forums, I figured that maybe it's the common oil return line. So I replaced the gasket and o-ring last weekend. No difference. I thought maybe the PCV T-connection near the turbo was clogged (where the little heat connection, elbow hose, and vacuum line connect to the air intake for the turbo. There was some nasty oil goop but not clogged, though I don't know if the rest of the PCV line and trap are okay are not. However, there doesn't appear to be any oil coming out of the oil cap and no extra pressure if I take the cap off after running the car.
So this morning, I cleaned off what I could, jacked the car up (put it on jackstands), and turned it on. Once it warmed up, it started dripping, so I crawled underneath and found a steady drip-drip coming down. But since it's AWD, it's very hard to see where it's coming from. But I was able to follow it up to a line that connect to the turbo (not the return line). If I'm under the car looking up at the turbo this line comes in from the driver's side under the plastic intake elbow and then connects to the turbo. It's a metal line, but covered by some insulation. However, the outer insulation is where the oil is dripping down from, i.e, it's not coming from the turbo unit, but from where this line originates (that I can't see) or running down the outside of it.
Sorry for the long post, I'm going to search alldata to see if I can figure this out (I also have a Haynes in the mail), but I was hoping that you guys might be able to help.
This is my first time posting. I'm just starting to work on this car (acquired last year). I've only done my front rotor and pads so far, but now I also have a ripped CV boot so I'll be doing that. My main experience has been with my '86 and '92 Saab 900T's.
Thanks,
Wes
