I bought my 01 S60 2.4T two years ago for a really good price. It was a 4 year old off lease car that had been on the dealer lot for a while. I've put 36,000 miles on it in two years - it now has 84,000 miles. I doubt that the original leasee did anything but change oil on this car.
Over that time I realized the lower transmission mount (bushing) and upper firewall mount (bushing) were bad, so I replaced them. Both of these help to hold the motor in place and keep it from twisting.
Also over time the car started to "rumble" and some interior body parts rattled at stop lights when the car was in gear. This prompted me to look at the motor mount that sits behind the right front tire between the frame rail and the motor (attached below crank pully). I coulnd't see anything wrong with the mount from the outside but decided to replace it anyway.
Here's a picture of the mount from it's bottom - notice the crack in the steel bar that crosses the bottome of the mount. This mount is also designed to prevent motor rotation, I believe the bar cracked because it had too much pressue due to transmission and firewall busings being bad.
I also noticed that the rubber on the new mount keeps the motor about an 1/8 inch higher than the old - indicating fatigue in the old rubber.
