Hello and thanks for reading,
I anticipate buying control arm/ball joint assembly and tie rods for my 850. I've seen many comments on this sire re/ who's good/fair/bad. The local stores usually sell cheap stuff that "almost" fits and wears out 2 soon. I don't wanna pay volvo part prices but if i'm gonna do the labor i'd just as soon put in parts that will last.
850 has 180,00 miles and the suspension is normal wear I'd guess.
Suggestions/advice for on-line. I'll be checking any sponsors of this site and I understand FCP-Groton is a good bet. Just interested
BTW...I read on another post(s) that the 93 850's had a separate ball joint and control arm but the later year models were all a one piece assembly. FURTHERMORE I read this single assembly part was interchangeable with AND will match up easily (hell I can MAKE 'em fit) into the 1993. I'd rather work w/ a single assembly then multiple parts. Any experience, advice, suggestions.
I like this volvo. My sister had it since manufacture and she takes good care of her vehicles. She drives a Bimer now and it annoys here that i prefer volvos HA!
5-speed, runs nice, tight turns... feels good driving so i'm gonna keep it for a while
I failed a safety inspection in MA yesterday for either - ball joints, tie rod or control arm had excessive play. PS wheel has small side-to-side play. Mechanic couldn't localize the movement to anything more than the above unless he put it onna lift. After $39 I get rejected, dejected and ejected.. i went home
I checked and confirmed no up/down & some side2side. I didn't have time then to jack it and feel around for play in tie rod end. Check it out on Saturday. Any suggestions for isolating a bad tie rod vs. control arm? Get under hold the fittings while third party (or feet) rock the wheel seems about right?
Oh yeah & I'll be doing the CV joints and a new timing belt soon. So why again did I say I like this car?
Because of all the above I'm also looking for a download of an 850 manual. Saw some posts but the links were gone? Any hints.
