a/c not real frosty after recharge 850

Hi everybody, I live in Orlando so I need a/c as a matter of safety while driving. My a/c compressor was short-cycling and not very cool; so I figured it was probably low. (I bought the car a year ago--the a/c worked fine, and I've not had to charge it till now).

I charged it with the cans & gague you buy at Advance. After charging it cools but does not feel frosty cold. The comp doesn't short cycle anymore. But when I checked it with the gage that came in the kit it read at the bottom of the green the whole time--from before I charged it until after; it went up after charging by only a knat's whisker width. The can held 14oz. with 2 oz being oil.

My question is: should I put the other can in to try and get it colder or is this as cold as it will get? If I put the next can in will it overcharge? How accurate are the gages that come in the kits?

I've heard conflicting reports: some say the cans can overcharge, some say the cans are designed not to overcharge. I'm hesitant to put another can in because the first one put 12 oz of freon in and the whole system only holds 1.63 lbs. Would another be too much or would it just increase to pressure to where it should be?

Any opininons would be greatly appreciated.
