What a pain in the back!!! When you are 6'7" and the engine is 36 inches from the ground, it is bend, bend, bend.
Well, I took off the intake manifold. A little cussing at the vacuum lines and those stupid metal spring clips. I unbolted the dip stick support and reached under and unbolted the manifold support from the manifold. The support bolt at the bottom of the block was too hard to get to. No problem. Lift and separate!
The oil separator was a pain because of the torx screws holding in the oil line. And I realized why Haynes has you disconnect the battery: The starter wires are now close to tools as is the alternator. One oops or dropsy and that would be a real mess!!!!
All is now clean, about 4 hours worth. I'm slow, what can I say:)
Putting the manifold back on is my nemisis. I left the support bracket attached to the block, figuring it is fairly easy to attach the top bolt to the bracket. Wrong!! The bracket appears to be getting in the way. I can get either the right side or the left side of the manifold resting on the lower bolts, but the center sits on a bracket that is too high. The manifold will not drop down.
I guess I will have to remove the bracket tomorrow afternoon and try to put the manifold on before the bracket is in place. At least I know now where the bracker bolt is and can reach it from the top. Unless I am doing something wrong????
The real pain is having to attach the vacuum lines on the left and right sides before mounting the manifold. With those dumb spring clips as line holders.
I am going to rest now. My back hurts. My doctor is going to give me an injection of something or other tomorrow, and the dentist is going to clean the roots on my molars. I may not be in condition to put the engine back together:)
