It's getting close to spring and I need new tires to enjoy some moderate road trips in my 850 turbo. The tires will complement the new front axles, control arms, brakes and rotors I installed over the winter. Actually, I found a good indie mechanic to install the axles and control arms; I did the brakes.
I have had one set of Hankook tires and they seemed like a very good value. However, the tires were the Optimos and were installed on a Nissan Altima - very different application. The Altima met a nasty end at an intersection - got rearended by a driver on a cellphone in a Ford Expedition. My 1 year old son was strapped in his car seat, in the back seat. The car did its job, for sure, caving in the trunk and absorbing the force of the blow (totalled, of course). My wife was driving and she said that after the impact, our son was the quietest that he has ever been and his eyes were as big as Virgo rims!!
Also, the insurance check led to our 850 - I feel much better about the family outings, now. However, I had only put 8k miles on the Hankooks - they were great up until the accident, so my experience is very limited.
Any opinions on the Hankook line of tires for Volvos? When I bought the car, it came with Falkens, which have been good tires - they are just about used up, though.
Thanks!
