brakelight switch good–no brakelights/shift locked V70-XC70 2001

I have a 2001 V70XC that has an itermittant problem with the brake lights and shift lock. Sometimes after parking, there are no brakelights and the shift is locked. IF I jam the pedal down and leave it for a while the lights will comeback on and the shifter releases just like normal. When it fails there is continuity and power at the switch for both contact sets. Where does the signal go after the brakelight switch? Is there another common component for the lock and the lights?
