Heater Core 1995-850 850 1995

Here's the scoop...put on the heat...smell anti-freeze out of the vents. pulled up the carpet and took a nice look behind the console. There is a white box which, I guess, contains the heater core...allowing the air to flow around it and then out the plastic 'tubes' that exit the white box...am I in the 'ballpark'? I can feel the hoses that are the inlet and outlet for the anti-freeze...but the floor is dry...bone dry. Since this box is white, I see that it is discolored from the inside...green (as in anti-freeze green). Could this white box be filled with anti-freeze and the air is circulating around it...it is just so sealed that it isn't leaking?
I can't imagine getting this white box out of there...Although my manual says that it is 'do-able"...
So, the question really is...if I am smelling anti-freeze...is the core leaking, even though the floor is dry? Any step by step instructions (on -line ) for the 1995 850 (non-turbo)?
