Check engine code 232 'Long-term fuel trim, at idle, at upper or lower limits' 850 1995

Folks,

I have the above code on my 850 NA. If I clear it it comes back in a few days. It started to appear after I removed and replaced the intake manifold to clean up the oil separator, flame trap, and all rebreathing lines. I thought I must have left something loose and caused a vacuum leak but I have checked everything and can't find such. Also the engine runs very smoothly and has normal power, whereas a real vacuum leak usually causes an uneven idle, ping, hesitation, or some other symptom, in my experience.

So what is it? Suspects include MAF sensor or low fuel pressure. Any one have any experience with this code to suggest what to try next? This car gets lots of use and needs to be reliable, so I want to jump on this and get it resolved.

Front heated oxygen sensor was replaced about 2 years back for slow response, as was cracked fresh air intake hose to throttle body - never had any other previous emission/check engine symptoms in 10 years/138K miles.
