I can feel the A/C pump kick in and out. Normal? 850

I own two 97 850 wagons, an R and a GLT. Last summer I noticed the A/C relay on the R behind the dash was clicking on and off about every fifteen or twenty seconds. Thinking the evaporator was starting to go, I charged it with a can or 134A (with oil), and, later, when it continued to click on and off, with probably another half a container refrigerant. I charged the system with cans that had dye in them. When the clicking still continued, I took it to an Indy who looked under the car with his black light and couldn't detect any leaks in the system, not from the drain from the evaporator or around any connections.

But as I drive the car today, I can feel the car "twitch" as the A/C pump kicks in every fifteen seconds or so, making me wonder whether I overcharged the system. I don't want my serpentine belt to break because it takes so much power to start turning the A/C pump. Did I screw up adding too much refrigerant? Should I bleed some off? Using my handy dandy Wal-Mart pocket meat thermometer I found it pumps cold air down to 38-39F, but the pump still keeps clicking on and off every fifteen seconds.

I wouldn't be so concerned but for the fact that my 97 GLT doesn't exhibit any tiny pull down like the R does when the A/C pump clicks on. Any explanations, advice or suggestions most welcome and thanks in advance. Dick
