Turbo v. Base gas mileage 850 1995

I currently have an 850 wagon base model and get so-so mileage...hwy mileage is decent probably 29-30 mpg and city is rather bad. I'm looking at a 95 turbo wagon....will it suck considerably more gas than the base? A gov't website estimates it at 19-26 mpg....anyone think that is accurate?

Aside from the fun factor any other reasons to 'upgrade'? If it doesn't use much more gas I might go for it.

I love Volvos but the guzzling issues.....sigh. I have my 95 850 because it has side airbags and is the most affordable car with them on the market that I could find! Loved my 240s, too...but can't wait to get a hybrid....I live in L.A. and gas is super $$$ here! But safety is more important to me ;o)

Thanks for your thoughts,

Saskia
