ca ca cold 850 1993

I was given an 850 with a frozen block(she didn't like adding motor oil). I was told that often the bearings overlap and lock which causes the freezing. I am also told that these blocks are VERY different than the 200 series blocks so I can't drop the oil pan and attack (remove just the crank as comparted to the whole subframe) the engine from the bottom. Is that true? Is there a prescribed method for dealing with frozen motors? (other than TNT)

Thanks!!

Andrew
