850 A/C Please help before shop takes all my money 850 1995

I have a 95 855T w/ approx 130K. Around 3 years ago the A/C started blowing warm and I could hear the compressor cycling on/off rapidly. Took the car to Volvo dealership and a recharge was the fix.

Car presented in the exact same way this past week and I may have made the mistake of trying to save a few bucks. I took it to a "Precision Tune" shop and I am hopeful that I won't regret it.

Shop refilled the A/C system but says that they now cannot get the "compressor to engage" and they are going to have to read up on how to "reset the A/C system". This was Saturday at the end of the day and they are planning to dive back in Monday. Does this make sense to anybody? Is there anything that I could recommend to the shop that they do, or should I kindly collect my car and take it to the Volvo dealership (probably should have in the first place)

I would appreciate any insight.
