HUGE drop in gas mileage, UPDATE 850 1997

Hey guys:

Thanks for the info on the my previous thread of the 14th. I went to Bay13 and followed the instructions on the vacuum lines that one of you suggested I check. I did the small elbow behind the power steering pump and it is a PITA to get at. I did take it off and it was okay. Went to the vacuum tower and checked everything there and all was okay. Checked all the elbows, cleaning them and inspecting them with a light, all okay. Third place Bay13 says to look at is aroung the flame trap. All okay there except the vacuum line that feeds into it from the elbow coming out of the intake manifold behind the power steering pump. This hard plastic line is covered with sponge. Fortunately, I pulled on it a little bit to clear the sponge and it was almost ripped in two. I could see that the rubber had deteriorated over time and it was shot. I've replaced it and hopefully all will be well.

Once again, thanks for all that helped and hope this post will help somebody else in looking for a leak.

Henry
