question about '96 850 expansion tank 850 1996

I was looking at the expansion tank today, and noticed that there was some sort of electrical port on the bottom/side of it. The sensor was connected through the whole in the bottom of the tank, yet there was this unutilized connection. I spoke with my mechanic this afternoon, and we could not for the life of us determine what the purpose of it was. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
