2 questions about spark plugs and turn signals

RE: my friend's 1998 V70 non-turbo with a B5254S engine... (First of all what does the "S" mean in 5254S?? Always been curious)

1. Her car had AC Delco spark plugs in it. I replaced them with the OE Volvo plugs. My question is how do you measure the electrode gap? On conventional plugs there is one ground electrode and one center electrode - real easy to measure the gap. On these Volvo plugs, there are three ground electrodes bent inwards towards the center electrode. They don't actually curve over the center electrode. How are you supposed to slip a .06mm feeler gauge/wire under them to measure the gap? I can't figure it out.

2. The turn signals (both front and back) flash rapidly - the same speed as when one bulb is burnt out to let you know that one is burnt out. The odd thing is, both sides flash together in unison. Left front and left back at same time but rapidly and right side front and back at same time but rapidly. What is that? What controls that?
