It's one of the coldest Decembers recorded in Chicago and I'm just not getting enough heat out of the car on my drive to/from work (50/50 interstate/surface streets). The temperature gauge is often just a needle's width above the fully cold mark - see pictures below.

Other than blocking part of the radiator, does anyone else in a cold climate have experience with what the temperature gauge normally looks like when, say, driving 70 mph in 0 F (-18 C) weather? I'm thinking this could be 1. completely normal and I should block part of the radiator, 2. Due to the vehicle being imported in Houston (and driven by me for 5 years in Atlanta) it has a lower temperature thermostat installed or 3. the thermostat is stuck open.
Comments? Suggestions?
(yes, i know the bulb burnout light is on - the front passenger marker/parking light doesn't work. Bulb is fine, must be a wiring problem elsewhere. Suggestions?)
