Tranny & OverDrive Questions V70-XC70

Ok so my winter mode light was on for awhile and the overdrive arrow. I took it in, they said maybe it was a problem with the overdrive switch confusing the tranny, reset the code, and that night it came back again. I drove maybe another week, no apparent problems with the driving of the car as far as dragging or not engaging, except in reverse, I got a little jerkiness. Then, one morning, I went to drive out and whoa, no power, reverse drove ok, but absolutely no power in drive. You had to kind of feel for it in the pedal to get it back in the garage.
So I brought it back in and they tell me tranny fluid was low, they filled it, drove it ok up the street, and on the way back in, it went to 0. They say I need a new tranny.
I checked my fluids before, there was no burnt smell or particles in the fluid. No sign other than that light that there was a tranny problem.
Do you think I should take it somehwere else, or is this common Volvo issue. Is there a less expensive way out than a whole new tranny. I just got the car this year, and I can't afford 3gs for a new tranny.
Can anyone recommend a good Volvo repair shop in Atlanta area?
