Causes of Flashing Arrow

There are a lot of postings covering the flashing upshift arrow on the instrument cluster but none that I have yet seen have solved my problem of intermittent difficulty starting. To create a good summary for future searches of Brickboard, a simple question..."What are all of the causes that you can think of that causes the upshift arrow to flash".
