My wife's 1998 S70 has 75K miles on it and we have noticed a clunking noise in the front passenger side of the car. It has gotten worse over the course of about two months. It sounds like something is loose. Two weeks ago I changed the front rotors and brake pads and while looking around for what might be causing the clunking noise I noticed the left front cv boot was torn. I had that replaced at a local independent shop that specializes in Volvos. At that point based on information from this discussion board I figured the clunking was coming from a broken sway bar link. The mechanic also thought that was likely and confirmed that it would be an easy fix for me.
I ordered the parts from Eeuroparts and replaced those this past weekend but the noise remains. I'm thinking it might be the front motor mount. I looked at it while inspecting my car during my brake repair but couldn't tell for sure if that was the problem. I don't recall the mounts ever having been replaced. Does anyone else have any thoughts on what it might be? The noise happens as you drive down the street seemingly even without minor bumps in the road. It is particularly noticeable at 25 mph or so. It doesn't appear to go away when the automatic transmission is placed in neutral.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Regards,
Trevor
