I have had 1 240 sedan, 1 240 wagon, 1 740 sedan and now have an 850 turbo wagon.
The 850 is by far the worse and most expensive I have had. With all of my volvos I have had electrical problems, but with this 850 I have had numerous front end problems, brake issues and just all sorts of problems. I have put so much money into this with the mid set that it si worth it because volvos last so long.
I have had 4 volvo mechanics. 3 of which will complain about the other volvo mechanics calling them untrustworthy so it is hard for me to know who actually knows what they are doing, with the exception of our first volvo mechanic who is now 3 hours away. ( he was awsome).
Anyway, my latest problem is ABS/Off trac lights coming on. I realize it is probably the module but will be getting a scan from a NEW volvo mechanic just to be sure.
Now, the mechanic I spoke with today, who incidentally wants nothing to do with this ABS light issue and advise me to get scanned and if I know for sure that is what it is... then said he thought it would be wise to get from Vitor rather than sink the money a dealer would charge.
Anyway, He has been telling me that the 850 was and is a terrible car with tons of oddball and expensive problems. He said they are the one volvo that he does not think is worth sinking money into and that they are not like the 240s or 740s or even the s and v 70s in that they will last a good long time. I am not sure if he is right, but he certainly seems to be in my case. This car is costing me so much and just feels so UNSAFE to me.
What are your thoughts on the 850? Did volvo make a mistake when they decided to go from RWD to FWD and then 4WD???? Is the quality of volvo not what it used to be? Are the s and v 70 better than the 850s?
