winding noise as motor speed go up 850 1994

I got 1995 850, had same noise - my mechanic said " don't worry, make radio louder"..

Drove w/ the noise for another 6-8 months, it got so bed that even people who did non know anything about cars, started asking "is your car all right".

So, First changed PS pump - 50% of the noise gone.
Then-changed belt tensioner pully -got a little better, but the noise did not go away completely.
Next , changed idler pulley -THAT WAS IT -no more wining noise.
I would suggest to change idler pulley and tensioner pulleys first,if does not help -look further -could be PS pump, alternator, Compressor as well.

You need a special tool to loosen up the tensioner to remove the serpantine belt.
    Hope, it helps.

Since you're using the power steering pump location as a guide, have you checked the fluid level in the power steering reservoir? If it's low, that's a strong possibility. If the fluid on the dipstick (assuming that it isn't low) shows any sign of foaming, or if the fluid is very dark or smells bad, that can also be a problem.

Or are you talking about a sound that goes away a few minutes after you start the engine? That's a whole different thing.

If you give us a bit more info, we'll try to help.

        Next questions...

If you are sitting still with the engine running, and turn the wheels first in one direction, then the other, do you hear the noise (perhaps a sort of "groaning" sound) that seems to get louder as you turn the wheel, then gets quieter as you stop turning the wheel?

If you have the wheels turned all the way to one side or the other, and hold the steering wheel so that the steering is at the limits of its movement, does the sound change?

And please don't worry about grammar... I'm sure we all understand you just fine... :)

Fairly normal unless it's a new noise and/or it's intollerable. I would think it's your turbo spooling up. Do you have power as it's winding up? If you lack power even when going faster (imagine that), it could be a turbo vacuum leak.
