Front End Clincking S80

On a 2000 S80, I have an anoying clincking noise which sometimes can be heard even on a smooth road. I had a couple of shops go thoroughly through the entire front end and found everything nice and tight, including the sway bar links. One of them believes the problem may lie in the upper strut plate. The car has 57k and struts/inserts seem to be fine. The noise seems to be coming from the driver side. On a previous 960, I experienced similar problem and it was due to a sway bar link. It does not seem to be the case here. Any clues/insights?

your problems seems to caused by the front struts seat. all parts will seem tight but the rubber has corroded. i just changed both of mine on a 99 s80

Front End Clincking S80

Recently on my S70 I had clicking too...over really small bumps and sometimes on smooth roads...really felt like suspension. I had the end-links checked and was told they were fine... This stumped me for awhile but finally I had them take the end-links off and found that they were indeed the culprit. With them installed and torque applied to them while attached to the end links it is very hard to see that they were worn. I would recommend that you take them loose and drive around the block and see if you still hear the clicking. If you don't anymore, you know what is wrong. Don't know if they offer it for your car, but I bought heavy duty swaybar end-links from IPD and am very pleased with them. You might want to give them a call and see if they have them for your car, if the issue your having warrants their replacement.
