Hi I had this problem with my 1990 740T and a friend of mind with his 1989 240 wgn. The problem was the Fuel pressure regulator. I drained the oil, changed the oil filter, air filter, replaced the spark plugs(let the gas in the cylinders evaporate) and added a new fuel pressure regulator. Problem solved.

Every time you try to start the car, gas is sprayed in to the cylinger. Without a spark, the gasoline will run down the sides of the cylinders and into the oil. Then the gasoline will weaken the engine seals and start leaking out. If there is that much gas in your oil, I hope your car isn't in an indoor garage. When it finally fires up it will fry your house.
Change the oil now, then find out why you are not getting a spark.

thanks for your response. I just got the car from someone who had it stored in an inhouse garage. they could have easily torched the house. it's outdoors now.I'll check out the spark situation. thanks again.
