V70 XC Transmission 'Hunting' V70-XC70 2000

Our XC w/100K miles seems to "hunt" when going up a hill as if the transmission can't find the proper gear. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Better check the schedule. Some do not call for changing the trans fluid. So, if yours doesn't call for it then it hasn't been changed. If it does call for it, I would look at the bills you paid and make sure it was shown as being done.

Could be the dreaded ETM too. Like the other poster said, if you haven't changed your ATF recently it would be worth doing. Make sure you use the right one to do the flush. AWD XC's are a bit different than others from what I've read.

          Oops..

My 2001 XC 70 while coasting to a stop will give a "Clunk" transmission noise as it shifts down
into first gear. I asked my local mech about fluid change. He said maybe not. His thoughts were more
towards software. I haven't done anything yet...

Software, maybe...but a tranny flush never hurts and could get rid of the clunk.
