rear door won't open 850 1997

Hello - my rear passenger door will not open - I can't unlock it - it happened instantly with no warning. I've played with the inside and outside latch and tried holding up the lock with no luck. It seems that something is jammed. Any suggestions - do I need to try and remove the door?

Just read fixit2003's answer, and it's a good one.... maybe. A "slim jim" which any locksmith, mechanic, or car thief will certainly have, may open the lock, depending on where the linkage separated from the lock button (assuming that's what happened). I took a good look at my car, and to remove the rear door inner panel while the door is closed will obviously not be possible without first removing the bottom seat cushion. I'd try fixit2003's suggestion before trying to get the seat out, and the panel off. Good luck.

A "slim Jim" might help or a local locksmith (or car thief) might be able to use one to get it open. I think you'd have alot of trouble getting the door panel off in one piece with it closed.

Hopefully not.

But you do have to remove the door panel to see what happened. Take a look at this link and see if you think that it can be done with the door locked closed. Good luck.

Thanks Marty - after following your suggested link, I was able to open the door and after much (2 hours) of fiddling, I realized that the interior door handle was forced into a slightly open position by, none other than, a small piece of Lego. So in the end, I didn't need to take the door apart at all, but now I know how and I'm REALLY glad that I didn't end up going to the dealer for help.
