goofy behavior of gearbox after evaporator change - wiring connector? 850 1995

After removing/replacing the dashboard and climate unit (to put in a new evaporator) I get the following symptoms. It seems almost certain I forgot to reconnect something but so far I can't find it. Does anyone have an idea?

Automatic is very slow to shift up from first gear the first time the car is started and gets underway.

After a couple of stop-and-go (at traffic lights) the shifts become more or less normal.

This begins again each time I cut the ignition then restart.

Trans will enter Winter mode but switching between Econ and Sport does nothing.

Check-engine light is on with gearbox (position 1) codes as follows:

114 (mode selector open circuit or short circuit to supply)
124 (mode selector faulty or short circuit to ground)
232 (speedometer signal missing)

Speedometer, tachometer, gauges and all warning lights and accessories on the car work EXCEPT:

the up-arrow on the dash does NOT light up.
the ambient temperature readout says "LO" rather than an actual temperature
the Econ/Sport/Winter switch light is out
the gear position indicator light is out

thanks to all,

ksg

goofy behavior of gearbox after evaporator change - more 850 1995

I have traced this to the large red connector which connects the dashboard harness to the main harness. It was very hard to separate this when I took the dash off. It does not like to stay on when put back.

The connector is hinged at one end, then swings on or off and is clasped at the other. The little clasps don't hold it together well. Maybe stressed it when I took it off.

All the symptoms I had were in circuits fed through the clasp end which was partly separated. As far as I can get it to stay clasped the symptoms disappear.

Anyone else has had trouble with this connector?

    thanks,,,

As a followup, the car is a NA with 125K miles. PNP was replaced 2 yr ago and the fluid changed every 55K miles (last year was latest) and is pink. No gearbox symptoms occurred before I did the evap change.
