Bad tranny or something else? 850 1993

AUTOMATIC:Everyday same thing: i go outside, start it up, stick it in gear, and take off for the day. well i pull out of the driveway and the car will not shift out of 1st gear, i have to shift to neutral then back to drive and then the car will shift to 3rd lol. car cant get out of its own way. once in 3rd the car will not leave it unless i come to a complete stop in which i get first again. after about 5 to 10 min of driving the transmission hunts for 4th, finds it and then the transmission works perfect. By perfect i mean it will downshift and upshift as it is supposed to. the car will not have a problem again until i let it sit over 2 hours or so and the tranny gets cold. Now, i dont think that the transmission is gone because after it warms up, it is perfect. thinking about changing the gear selector microswitch and pnp switch (neutral safety switch) what do you all think? Thank you all for any help!

You didn't mention whether or not the transmission fluid has been checked, or, better yet, changed recently. If the PNP switch has failed, or is intermittant, you would probably get error codes which would tell you that. If the transmission oil has been allowed to get really bad over a period of time, there are a variety of valve body components which could get stuck, and cause all sorts of problems. An automatic transmission operates on hydraulic pressure, as well as an assortment of electrical sensor inputs. Higher temps can free up stuck components, which will stick again upon cooling down. If "ratcheting", (i.e. cycling the shift linkage through all the gear positions quite a few times to try to clean the switch contacts) makes no difference, I hope you've read all the forums that discuss problems like yours. Good luck

FYI: You can get the PNP switch at your local Autozone for $45.99
part number: WELLS RB425. I've replaced mine 1-1/2 year ago and still good

Most likely this is your PNP switch, it's under the battery tray and is an electronic switch on top of your transmission which is connected to the gear position selector inside the car. The part is only about 100 dollars. You can get the part at FCP Groton...or even an after market part at local auto parts stores. Here is some info on replacing the part:
