Trip meter and odometer not working 850 1995

I noticed this morning that the electronic odometer in the computer is working but the mechanical trip meter and odometer in the instrument panel are not.

What drives them?

Best EVER web page for odometer installation! 850 1995

I was going to say, "let me guess, you have a 1995 or '96?" Then, I saw you did have a 1995! As my next guess, do you have between 150-175,000 miles? I have two 1995 850's ... One odometer went out at 163,000 and the other at 150,000. Heinous.

The odometergears.com is a great, great business to deal with. Regarding the two different gears, Jeff at odometergears.com told me that 100% chance that the 15 tooth gear was broken and 35% chance the 12 tooth gear was ALSO broken. I chanced it and only ordered the 15 tooth gear and my odometer has worked ever since. You may want to be less cheap than I and order both, given that it's about a 3+ hour job (yes, I AM the slowest ever).

The absolute BEST web page for this installation is
http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/odometer_fix.php

Also, consult volvospeed.com for the "Removal of Instrument Cluster"
http://volvospeed.com/Dashremove.php

Hope it helps. This is one of the best ratios for the work:"I'm such a BadA**"

Hello:

A very small plastic gear (one half the size of your small fingenail) drives the odometer and trip odometer. A gear tooth or two breaks off and causes the problem. It needs to be replaced. Check odometergears.com for gear replacement.

You can read the actual mileage right off the ECU on the Volvo 850's ('93-'95).

Here's how....

To Determine the mileage on a Volvo 850 if the odometer doesn’t work….

The answer depends on year. For '93-'95 models with the diagnostic ports under the hood near the ECU box, the answer is yes. Follow this procedure:

1. Switch ignition on

2. Connect the fly wire to socket - A7

3. Push button 5 times

4. When LED comes on and stays on, enter code 1-1-1 as follows:
- press the button once when LED is still on
- wait for LED to go out and come on again
- press the button once when LED is still on
- wait for LED to go out and come on again
- press the button once when LED is still on
- read off response, which will be the last three digits of the odometer miles

5. Repeat steps #3-4, but enter code 1-1-2 (that is, press the button twice on the last step); read off the response, which will be the first three digits of the odometer miles. If you have less than 100,000 miles, the first digit will read as 10 blinks.

Does anyone know I can get the complete instructions to replace the two gears in the odometer?

Please post or email me.

Thanks.
