Technical engine question 850

I see that the S/V40 series runs a 1.9 liter - can anyone tell me if it is related to the B18/B20 from the sixties/seventies, or is it based on a Ford/Mazda design?

Thank in advance for your feedback.

Remember the 6 cyl created for the 960? It is a modular engine, slice off 1 cyl and you have the 5 in the 850. Slice off 2 cyls and you have ... your motor.

It most certainly is not an old Ford or Mazda design.

Technical engine question 850

Norm,

Thanks for the info. Volvo has always been pretty modular with all their designs, but since Ford stepped in there is no telling where these engines come from. As long as the engine has Swedish pedigree things should be OK.

Currently working on a project that would mate one of these newer 1.9 turbos to a 1966 four speed with overdrive. This one is going to take a year or two, but I think the results will be pure swedish pleasure.

Thanks again for the input

Don't know the designer on this, but it is surely not a B 18 or B 20 as that is very old technology dating back to early 60's and very heavy and not efficient. They were great engines, but economy was not their strong suit.
