Check Engine S70 1998

Is there a way to pull the codes without a dedicated code puller (OBD2)? I keep getting a check engine light that comes on under hard acceleration (T5) while the car misses and stumbles very slightly. Sometimes, the car misses/stumbles at idle too. It has 155K miles and has not had the plugs/wires/cap/rotor replaced in at least 120K miles (or ever). Thoughts on the stumbling/missing problem and how I might pull the codes?
