Electical Demon 850

Got the a/c gremlin (see my previous post) and now also some sort of electrical demon. A few weeks ago, when I started the car, the ABS light stayed on and the blinkers did not work. Had no idea why this happened. Checked all of the fuses, they were good, and the connection to the ABS module, all was well. Got back in the car, started it up, and the ABS light went out and the blinkers worked. Go figure. A week later, same thing happened. Went under the hood and wiggled some wires near both headlights and looked around for some loose connections, found nothing. Next time I started the car, all was normal. Last eve, same thing, looked under the hood, nothing. Started the car up, all was normal. Any ideas where to start looking? I'm not sure how the ABS light and blinkers are tied together, but perhaps there is a main connector powering both that is loose and needs to be tightened up.

Help please!

Keith

The next time my abs lite stayed on i wiggled the key back and forth several times in the normal direction of travel and the lite went out. i tried this several times and it worked every time. i went in and ordered electrical part of the switch from FCP groton for $46.00. I should know in a few days if this does indeed cure it.

Ditto, the ignition switch could be your problem.
And, there could be the possibility that your ABS is at the end of the rope as well. Hot weather will cause the ABS unit to quit.
Wiggle the ignition key and see if that has an effect on the turn signals and ABS light.

Its weird, I have just developed the same problem in the last week. I have tried wiggling the key thinking of poor contacts in the switching part but this didnthelp. I have noticed several other symptoms. First - three weeks ago i started having trouble moving the shifter out of the park position, and this seems more likely to happen in the afternoon when it is hot and humid verses in the cooler mornings (60'). when the abs lite stays on at startup I cant move the shifter out of park, sometimes the abs lite will flicker on and then off and everything worksfine.. the second thing is that if i use the remote starter everything works fine everytime, shifter ,turn signals, headlites. If i start with the key and the abs lite stays on, i shut it off and start with remote and all is well. I am not sure what direction to start in. Could it be related to the remote starter, which was installed 5 years ago? thanks bobd 1995 850 144,000 miles

Next time this happens, wiggle the key. It could be a failing ignition switch.

Most likely you need Victor the ABS guru to rebuild your ABS unit for starters. He'll do it for about a forth the cost of a new unit from your friendly dealer. Email him http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Volvo_Parts/Volvo_V70_ABS.htm
