I posted a mssg last week about getting a belt to bypass my A/C since it was toast. I got one and installed it, now I am wondering if I should unplug it anywhere so there is no way it could be drawing any power. Thanks again to the guys who help me locate a belt after being told by my mechanic that he couldn't find one.

How about pulling out the A/C fuse...

Anyway.. your A/C compressor is not toasted, only its clutch need to be replaced.

Most ac systems come on automatically when defrost is selected to dry the air. Don't know if the 850 system comes on even though the dash switch is turned off. All that would happen would be to energize the clutch. The clutch control wire can be disconnected but it has a funny plastic cover around it that's a little tricky to take off.

It won't draw any juice if you just turn the dash switch off.
