Catalytic convertor problems 850 1996

Hi everybody,

I need to change the catalytic converter for my 1996 850 GLT SW....
My mechanic recommended me to go with the Volvo catalytic converter..he said that the aftermarket ones don't fit properly...
Well I checked some prices on the Internet and they are much more decent(around $330 US dollars) than the price from the Volvo part (my mechanic gave me the price $877.49 CDN )...
Well , the exahaust manifold is broken too....so between exhaust manifold, catalytic converter and labour the price is $2114 CDN !!!

Anybody who used aftermarket catalytic converters?
How about exhaust manifold?

I've found some at:

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalog.php?carcode=1288920&parttype=5808&EPIsubcategoryID=353&EPIcategoryName=Catalytic%20Converter&EPImodelID=12968&EPIengineID=2541&partGroup=21

Thanks everyone.

Hi

If you need to replace the exaust manifold, the motor has to come out. This is the 'big' cost. You will need a Volvo exhaust manifold, but any good parts supplier would get a decent catylytic convertor and exhaust for much cheaper than the dealer.

I changed mine last month and put on an aftermarket brand. Only cost me $150 labor and parts. It's Magnaflow Cat Converter and i got the heavy duty one although my wfe's car is non turbo.

Good Luck

I had 2 '96 850s both had aftermarket cats with no problems. I did a google search and found them for under $280 each. You need to know 2 0r 4 bolts and with or without an airpump.

I've used aftermarket CCs and they work and fit just fine. He's feedin' you a bunch of hogwash in that they "won't fit properly". Check FCPGroton

which part of the manifold?..if it's the bit that bolts on to the engine then I would think that's a Volvo only part...as for the rest of the exhaust any competent exhaust builder can make you up a new one.

It's the part that goes toward the CCs...
