obd-2 tools S70 1996

Hello-I wish to buy a tool which will reset service lite and check engine lite. Can I buy a OBD-2 code reader which will do both of the above.IPD only sells seperate tools and their prices seem a little high. Can someone suggest a tool and site from their experience? TIA mark

some folks on this board have had good luck with a scan unit sold by "harbor freight" for less than $50. i have recently purchased one of Alex Peper's scan tools for use with a PC. i haven't used it much but it appears to be pretty impressive. they cost $122 at obd-2.com though they can be had open box on ebay for a bit less. the only problem i've had was the need to reset the display properties to see the whole screen.

this whole obd-2 and can thing is really beyond the scope of the average owner and i think a tool that gives you the codes and resets the cel and service lights is about all you can use. you could go full on vadis and spend 3k for the interface and the software and then you would be able to reprogram the car but that seems a lot to spend on something with a finite life and will not support new cars. i would go cheap and maybe buy from a store with a good return policy.

I dont know of any that reset the service light. One of the more popular ones is the INNOVA 3100. You can get it at most walmarts for @ $100. A lot of folks go into the dash & unplug the service light bulb.

I bought the Innova through eBay and paid about $80 including shipping. I saved $20 over Walmart plus 9.25% Tennessee sales tax. I'm very impressed with it and it's easy to use. As far as re-setting the service light..depends on which model and year you have. 96-98 850's and 70 series Volvos cannot have their the reminder light turned off without a special tool. IPD sells one but they want to much for it ($178..wow!). I also bought the same (or similar) tool, made by "DRAPER" off of eBay and it works fine. Seems all of these come from England so be prepared to pay the shipping... Even so, I paid about $60 total for mine, and used it just last night!
